Over the weekend I went along to the Festival Place Eat Street event, which was headed up by special guest Levi roots who charmed the crowds with his live cooking demonstrations, in depth knowledge of Caribbean culture and of course live, soulful music. Surrounding the stage were chefs from the restaurants within the Basingstoke shopping centre; all cooking up a storm for guests to feast on free, delicious food. There was such a fun atmosphere and exciting buzz around the event, with the rhythm of the steel band floating through the air and the warm and spicy Caribbean flavours tempting people in from afar.

As the sun shone through the extensive glass ceiling in Festival Place and the cheer of the well fed community lifted my spirits, it made me think of faraway shores and holidays. I thought I would pull together a Caribbean inspired, holiday clothing lookbook from the high street stores which surrounded me, to tie in with this fun event, for anyone else wanting to explore this vibrant and spirited culture.
I love the vibrancy of the Caribbean culture; the bright, bold colours as dynamic as their personalities. I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely ready for a holiday now!! All these items are available at Festival Place in Basingstoke. I’d love to see any pics of you rocking bright and bold Caribbean inspired clothes on holiday or in the sunny UK – Tag me in your instagram snaps – @mumadventures xx
Last weekend I was kindly invited to an access all areas, behind the scenes look at the Festival Place Love Fashion Weekend. I of course was thrilled to be involved; fashion, photography and meeting other bloggers, what’s not to love!
I got there early to get ready, I opted for this beautiful jumpsuit from Lipsy from the new Next in Basingstoke. I am a huge fan of a jumpsuit, they can be dressed up or down according to the event and I find them so comfortable to wear whilst looking completely cool and put together.
My lovely friend Lucie came along to support me and help me capture the day. Festival Place invited along some bloggers too and it was so nice to meet them especially after “knowing” each other online! Also, props to the Zara biker jacket that I have been lusting after for so long!
It was a pleasure to interview stylist JP who put on a brilliant show. He was so charming and it was really lovely to get an insight into his ideas behind the design of his show. Encapsulating the SS17 trends into each catwalk, it was so nice to see how he pitched each trend from each store within Festival Place, I definitely could have talked to him all day, and that beard was oh so soft!
Some of my personal favourites would have t0 be the desert pallet bought together from Next, that trench!! Plus the summer style from Debenhams and the stripes collection. Watching a show like this makes it all seem so much more attainable than the LFW shows I watch from afar. I love that all of these items are available in Festival Place there and then if people want to go and pick them up. JP did a beautiful job to put together all of these looks and to open up the every day shopper’s eye to what might appear within the high street stores.
I vlogged my day at the Festival Place Love Fashion weekend if you want to see more of what we got up to and some behind the scenes action, take a look here and let me know which were your favourite looks!
It’s not often, since having children, that Stuart and I have a date night – we go out, and we have nights out together, but it’s usually for events or group outings. So when Festival Place got in touch to see if I would like to challenge myself to finding the perfect date night outfit for £100 I jumped at the chance! I filmed the experience over on my YouTube channel, so you can see exactly what I got up to:
Child free shopping – this is an exciting opportunity!!
Finding The Perfect Date Night Outfit:
I really love the sheer trend, but I struggle with its wearability – I don’t want my underwear on show at the best of times, let alone in public when I am about to eat all.the.food.
I am obsessed with this top from Lipsy, it’s the perfect opaque fabric covering all the right paces with the beautiful lace giving it a luxe touch. It was the first thing I saw when I got to Festival Place, and I knew I had to go back for it. It was the most expensive part of the whole outfit, coming in at £40 but I think it is something I will get so much wear out of. It is from the Michelle Keegan collection at Lipsy, which I found at Next. I also love these boyfriend cut jeans which I didn’t end up buying sadly because typically the 8 was too big and the 6 was too small!! But I love the understated style of this cut of jean, they are so easy to wear and you can dress them up with a pretty top and heels as easily as you can wear casually with a pair of converse and a simple t-shirt.
The next item I found I was immediately drawn to – this beautiful blush pink skirt from Monsoon felt like silk and I felt all sassy as I sashayed down the changing room spinning and twirling in it. It was £49 so took up half of my budget – I had already fallen in love with it though and knew I would have so many other reasons to wear it over the summer. Sadly after a couple of hours of trying to find complementary pieces within my budget I had to admit defeat – but maybe one day I will be able to add it to my wardrobe.
Coffee break time. I had been shopping a couple of hours and needed a bit of time to refresh myself, in peace – what a luxury!!
I absolutely have to own this jacket. It’s faux suede and I have tried to justify it for weeks now. I just absolutely love the light, delicate colour which is such a nice alternative to a black leather biker jacket. Every time I put my one on I just don’t feel right in – it’s just not my style. But they always look so nice on other people, I just feel like an imposter! Zara also does a light blue and a light khaki version. But I love the blush pink the most. It will be mine one day!!
I put myself in a predicament of having to find a pair of shoes for £11 having over spent on the skirt and shirt. The hunt was on and I managed to track down these bargains in Debenhams. The pair I eventually went for were £14.70 and from Faith.
Guess what – I tried it all on together and it turns out I didn’t like the way the skirt bought the outfit together – all that searching for £11 shoes and when I pretty much found them I realised I no longer wanted what I had pictured in my head. I actually felt so much more comfortable in the peg leg trousers I chose from New Look in a similar colour.
I completed my date night outfit challenge using the Festival Place gift card, which they even accept in the restaurants and coffee shops!
My outfit came in at a total of £94.68 and I was so so happy with it! Here’s a little look at the finished date night outfit:

This weekend they are holding the Love Fashion event which takes place 29th & 30th April with fashion catwalks from 11am, pamper and skincare sessions throughout the day in the health and beauty lounge and expert advice from stylist JP. I will also be involved across the weekend helping with styling and chatting about the top SS17 trends and must-haves. I would really love to see you if you can make it, take a look here for more info!! Let me know if you can pop along and have a look at all the exciting events happening at Festival Place over the weekend.
I love the change of the seasons, every time it turns it reminds me why I love living in the UK. Just as you get fed up of the heat, the crisp Autumnal evenings set in, then once the excitement of the winter festivities are over the green shoots of spring start popping out of the ground. An eternal Summer may seem like heaven, but the reality would probably be a little more dull. I think we need to miss what we love to really appreciate it.
My go-to Spring Outfits:
Spring time is up there with Autumn as being my favourite season; nature is coming back to life with a bang and the shops are full of pastels, cotton and open toes. I thought I would share some of my go to Spring outfits which I have been loving recently, in case you’re also looking to refresh your wardrobe at the moment.
Now we all know, Spring in the UK is pretty temperamental! One day it is 20 degrees and we’re all stocking up on suncream and the next it’s back to being freezing – it was actually sleeting today, SLEET!! It’s almost May! I love how wet look leggings/leather trousers look so stylish without having to put any effort in. I paired these from Next with an old shirt from Asos and this hat from H&M (which is actually too small for my tiny head!) Perfect for dinner with the girls.
I love this outfit so much. The lace detail sheer top is beautiful and I really love it, the peg trousers are high waisted which is great for the “mum tum” and the bow detail is a lovely feature, I am a huge fan of the blush pink colour too. I paired this outfit with these absolute bargain sandals from Faith which were £14.70!!
These are perfect Spring outfits for cooler days, the trousers are lightweight and SS17 trend colours, I love the floral print of the top pair but they are a bit too big for me sadly. The jumpers come in handy during the cooler days – or when it’s downright freezing like today! All of these are from Zara https://www.zara.com/uk/en/woman
Last week I was thrilled to have been invited along to the Space NK store opening in Winchester. If you follow my YouTube channel I am sure you will know I am a total beauty & skincare addict so this was my idea of heaven!
The closest Space NK store to us is about an hour away so I am so pleased they have opened their stunning new store in Winchester, Hampshire. The building, once used for tea dances (cute), has been renovated to a beautiful standard and it lends itself perfectly to the luxury brands it houses. The original beams, low ceilings and period features really give it an authentic apothecary feel.
The store was full to the brim with my absolute favourite skincare and beauty brands. From NARS to Becca and Rodial through to Zelens. All brands which aren’t readily available on the high street.
As you may know, I love Sephora and have filmed a few hauls over on my channel. However being an overseas store, it’s not exactly easy to get my hands on things. I can’t tell you how pleased I am that I now have these amazing brands on my doorstep, and what’s more I can go in, talk through my needs, wants & wishes with expertly trained staff who will be able to personally help me find the right products. The staff don’t get sales based commission which really makes me feel like the advice and service they are giving me is what’s right for me and not because they have to push particular products out the door!
What’s more, if you want to try that super expensive serum, but you have really sensitive skin (like me) then you can take away a generous sized sample and test it out for a couple of weeks to make sure you’re not going to waste your money on something you skin doesn’t like or isn’t suitable for your needs.
I didn’t quite count how many ladies there were, but there were expert make up artists on hand to do full make overs if you so wish, or touch ups, test colours/specific looks out on you which would be amazing if you had no idea what you were doing when it came to make up, wanted to try out a new look, or even if you had a night out to get ready for!
I spent over an hour just browsing everything, I was oohing and ahhing at each shelf, one after the other. I can’t tell you how much I loved it. The store was so hotly anticipated that they had a queue of almost 100 people waiting patiently before they even managed to open the doors first thing! I’m glad I’m not the only totally obsessed skincare addict!
At the back of the store, beyond the skincare and make up, was a treasure trove of beautiful smelling goodies like luxury candles and Himalayan bath salts. Plus hair styling products and organic hand and body treatments from many brands I am yet to try. My wish list was already far too long and I have definitely increased my Christmas list 5 fold since my visit.
Have you visited the newly opened Space NK in Winchester? What did you think? What’s on your beauty wish list? I’d love to know!
