Hands up who welcomed the recent respite in this summer long heatwave?? As much as I have absolutely loved having so many sunny days over the past couple of months, it was nice to have a cooler couple of days recently to enjoy a different kind of fun with the family. Our errands had been building up whilst the weather had been so nice, so we decided to head into Basingstoke in Hampshire to visit Festival Place and pick up some holiday clothes for the boys as well as a few bits for me (obviously!) before taking the boys to see the Incredibles 2 as we had been promising for ages.
While we were there we decided to take a visit to the recently opened Flip Out trampoline park because they absolutely love anything like that. The park is huge, and we spent 2 hours jumping between the trampolines, racing through the ninja assault course and attempting the giant climbing wall (while the boys tried their best to knock us off by throwing giant foam squares at us!)
It was so nice to have that time as a family and have so much fun together. We finished up with a refreshing slushy as a treat before heading back down through the shopping complex towards the cinema to watch our film.
We don’t often take the boys to the cinema. Mainly because George, at 3 years old, doesn’t quite have the attention span to sit through it. But the Vue in Basingstoke had been totally re-fitted with the most comfortable chairs which allowed him to stretch out, sit on our laps, share with Henry…whatever he wanted to do, and he was quiet and content throughout the whole film! It was so nice to be so relaxed for the duration of the film and have so much space, it made the whole experience so enjoyable – and the film was pretty good too!
Once we left the cinema we headed outside to the many restaurants to grab a bite to eat before we headed home. There were some great options that I would have gone with..Giraffe, Wagamama, Las Iguanas to name a few…but given the little fussy people were with us we went with Pizza Express, becasue there’s never a bad meal with kids when we go there!!
The restaurant was huge and stretched over 2 floors, it was spacious, and we had lots of room around our table. The boys had fun with the activity sheets which were designed for the launch of The Creakers by Tom Fletcher while I gorged on the most delicious bruschetta I think I’ve ever eaten!! I loved sitting there as a family of 4 chatting about our favourite things about the film (Baby Jack Jack’s powers, obviously!) and simply just having that time together.
We had such a brilliant time at Festival Place, we literally spent the entire day there, there was so much to do! I can’t wait to go back and check out some of the new stores that are opening and finish off my holiday packing!
