Last year I felt like I really didn’t want to hang out much in our garden. Over the years we’ve done lots to it, but we really haven’t managed to make our garden a place we want to be. It suffers from being on a slope and as such there’s limited space where the boys can play. Our patio is quite small and our garden furniture always took up the majority of it. From the house we could see our eyesore of a shed which was 23 years old and to say it had seen better days was a massive understatement! All of last summer I just felt like I didn’t really want to be out there, now that the boys are getting older and playing with each other a lot more I know they can be left to play out in the garden, and I knew I didn’t want another summer ahead of us not enjoying our outside space.
It was time to take action – what is it they say, summer gardens are built in the spring?! Or something along those lines anyway!! The first major job to do was to sort our decrepit shed out. Let me paint you a picture…The roof had slowly fallen off over the years, resulting in it needing to be covered in a tarp to make it watertight. All that remained of the long side of the body of the shed was 2 empty spaces where the windows once were and the panels all totally crumbled into a sad pile on the floor. It was a terrible state of affairs and one that made me miserable every time I looked at it.
I was so thrilled when Shedstore got in touch to see if we would like to review one of their sheds, it was like the shed Gods were shining down on us! I took to their website, excitedly scrolling through the options; I had become one of those people who was excited by a shed!! We had a nice sturdy base of concrete – the only part of the area that wasn’t totally decayed, so we stuck with the 6×8 size with 2 windows – 2 “unbreakable windows” no less – ideal for a football mad family! I loved the look of the double door style, perfect for getting the doors wide open and being able to store large items.
Shedstore deliver for free within 48 hours, but I had put the delivery back 4 weeks due to snow, ironically it arrived last week on the same day as all that snow we had – I really did think late March would be a safe bet!! The guys came to deliver it within our helpful 1 hour slot and went out of their way to deliver it round the back of the house. I should have really booked the installation that Shedstore offer, but I thought between my husband and Step-Dad they would be ok, I felt so bad for them as they were out the whole day in minus 2! Thankfully my Step-Father is an absolute whizz at all things DIY, and after the main installation was done on the first day he came back to do the more technical bits like the felting in the week once the snow had melted away.
I’m absolutely over the moon with our new shed, I know it might sound like an over exaggeration but it’s honestly been the first step to making our garden a place we want to be and it’s given us the motivation to create a lovely play area for the boys next to it, now looking out onto the garden makes me smile every time! The shed itself is such good quality, all the pieces fit together like a glove and you can see the quality of it in the wood and joins. The floor is particularly sturdy and solid and will stand the test of time. There are lots of other products that I’d love to get from Shedstore, the playhouses are so sweet and they even do bike stores which are really handy. I might have also spent a little time lusting after the summer houses!! Our shed comes with a 10 year anti-rot guarantee which is ideal and is Shiplap Dip Treated so it will stay looking great for year to come!
I can’t wait to start work on the next stage of project garden revamp, sorting out our patio and finding the perfect toys for the new play area that I just love!!
Thank you to Shedstore for working with us on this post, I couldn’t love our new shed more!
