You may or not know that Jane Austen was actually born in Steventon, just a few miles from Basingstoke; she lived there for more than half of her life, she even wrote Pride and Prejudice during this time. This summer, on the 200th year since her passing, there has been a commemoration of her life with the Sitting With Jane public art trail in Hampshire and there are 24 book benches which have been professionally designed and painted; each with a personal interpretation of a Jane Austen theme. Have you spotted any whilst out and about in Basingstoke and Festival Place? I know I have loved spotting them whilst out shopping or walking with the boys.
The more and more I have seen these benches whilst shopping for fashion pieces in Festival Place the more my mind wandered back to a time of Regency & romance, a period of high fashion; a devil-may-care period! I thought I would draw from this period with some Regency inspired fashion ideas for a bit of fun, and see how they translate into today’s culture.

In 1984 Jane Austen’s famous Pride and Prejudice was released with a stunning peacock design; with it’s cover gilded in gold, it was one of the most iconic designs with which the novels would ever be graced; If you manage to spot this Sitting With Jane bench please tag me on Instagram because I think it is BEAUTIFUL!! This lends itself perfectly for the mesh and embroidered trend, I hope you like some of the pieces I’ve found.
