Last week an email popped into my inbox that literally made me spring out of my seat and actually jump up and down. Sofology, the home of actual Owen Wilson, were opening a store in Surrey and wanted me to pop along on launch day to check it out and choose my perfect sofa to take home! I was thrilled. I had long been a fan of the Sofology adverts and already knew that each of their 200+ ranges were exclusively designed and hand crafted to a really high quality. They all looked so stylish in the adverts and on the website, so I was really looking forward to seeing them in the flesh!
I had already spent a solid day on the Sofology website, so I knew exactly what I had in mind! Our lounge has 2 doorways, so it’s a bit of a tricky one to furnish as you have to leave room for the entries. It leaves us with one full corner to fill and I didn’t want to leave too much dead space. Our current set up is a corner sofa, a very tired corner sofa (which has been through 2 babies and a LOT of dribble, milk sick, snot…) in a light green. I’m forever plumping the cushions, but it’s really not looked its best for a good few years, disappointingly so as it’s not actually that old!
As I walked in the store I was immediately drawn straight away to the beautiful display of the “Twisted Classic” collection. I absolutely loved how the store had been designed, it really helped me see what they could be like in my own home. The first 3 sofas I saw were actually those which I had chosen online as some of my favourites. The displays were each different but all designed and laid out to help give maximum impact and insight as to what they would look like away from the store.
– The Liberte –
– The Lille –
– The Cricketer –
Just look how stunning they are! I loved them all but my absolute favourite was the Lille in Blue, it was beyond cosy and comfortable and looked pure luxury. I could just picture myself relaxing here on a Saturday night with a glass of wine in hand and X Factor on the box! Their strapline couldn’t be more true – “home really matters” – On this sofa I really would be very happy! Sadly the dimensions just really wouldn’t work and it would not have fit into the lounge, devastated! But it was time to keep on looking.
When I finally managed to drag myself away from these and move on I couldn’t believe how far back the store went; I was only at the beginning! I thought there was a mirror in the middle of the store, giving a feeling that it was bigger, when in fact it was just absolutely massive! The new Farnborough store has 102 bays, so one hundred and two sofas to choose from – something for everyone. I really liked how the layout flowed. The collections changed along with the flooring, decor, even service. When I was in the Twisted Classic collection I noticed how I was left to puruse on my own, of course I was greeted with smiles and hellos, but there was absolutely no pressure or hard sale. I was left to my own thoughts unless I needed help and I think that is such a unique service for retail.
In fact, what was totally refreshing was that at no point did the Sofology staff try the hard-sale on me, or try to push me to go forward with an order. The “Sofologists” don’t work to a commision based sale, meaning they are instead merited on good service. I had a lady called Joy who came to help me. By this point my mind was a bit bamboozled by what I wanted and what would work in the space, so she broke it down for me and helped me to understand the sizing and positioning and what would work with the Lille that I so desperately wanted to fit! (even at one point by moving half a snuggle seat from a different collection over to where the Lille was displayed to see how the colours worked!)
As I wandered further to the back, taking in all of the little decorative touches and singing along to the cheery Christmas songs playing, I came to the “Vintage” Collection, filled with 100% real natural Italian leather, rustic and country-living style pieces – I knew my husband would love all of these. His one wish is to have a “Dad’s Chair” y’know, Chesterfield type armchair to sit in and be bought tea and enjoy a good book (erm, ok, maybe one day!) Although I really loved the way it had been designed and the cool wallpaper features, these just weren’t what I was looking for this time.
I stopped for a refreshment at this point. I hadn’t even gone upstairs yet to the modern (err, hi USB charging sockets and full recliners!) and comfort & design collections. It really did feel like there was something here for everyone and the perfect place to go and spend an afternoon to find something to fit whatever your preferences. Once again as I looked through the vast selection upstairs I was pleased to see that the excellent customer service remained, and the staff were friendly, helpful but there was absolutely no obligation to buy. It really made me relax into the Sofology experience and not be worried someone was going to give me the hard sale so often felt in this kind of setting.
The huge interactive displays at each sofa were really useful to finding all the options and colours and info about each design. It was helpful to see what it would look like in a different configuration or colour and to see what other options each came with. All very modern!
So, I bet you’re going to want to see what we went with, having had allll the options and choice that Sofology had to offer! Well, a lady has to have some secrets right? You’ll have to check out my next post once our new sofa arrives!! I’d love to hear your guesses, leave me a comment below!
