Guest Post: 18 Things To Say Yes To In 2018.

We’ve all heard of the New Year’s Resolution – and if we admit it to ourselves – they never work. I’m almost certain it has something to do with the fact that it’s called a New Year’s Resolution. It’s like our minds have become programmed not to take them seriously anymore because we’ve slipped up every year since the day we knew what they meant. We’re ambitious about the changes we want to make, or the things we want to do in the New Year – before the clock strikes 12 – but for some reason the minute it’s New Year, and you have to put your money where your mouth is, it’s a whole different story. You see, the thing about New Year’s Resolutions is that one usually settles on unrealistic kinds of changes – or changes that are a little too daunting. Not to say you can’t achieve them, but perhaps your plans are scaring you a little because they’re just too big of a change.

Things to Say Yes to in 2018

We all have good intentions. We are eager to put our best foot forward for the New Year, eager to be better versions of ourselves, and we sincerely want to make a change for the better. But, we become lazy. We fall back into our comfort zones and brush them off for the following year. Perhaps we need to approach this ‘New Year’s Resolution’ thing, differently. Perhaps if we change the name and list just a few small changes, we’ll actually stick to them?

We’ve come up with a few small changes and things to try, in the New Year, and we’re calling it: “Things to say YES to, in 2018.” Now that seems more appealing than a New Year’s Resolution, doesn’t it?

Say YES to: 

  1. Going Natural

Why not say yes to more makeup free days and al naturale hair? It has become rather trendy to go fresh-faced and embrace your natural side, these days. So, in 2018, why not put down the foundation and the hair straightener that’s damaging your locks, and just be you, minus the mask!

  1. Reading More

Most people find it difficult to fit reading into their busy schedules, but in 2018, make more time for it! Reading gives you an excuse to sit back with your feet up, sip on some coffee and take a much-needed breather – all while following an exciting story or learning something new. 

  1. Walks in Nature

One should never underestimate the healing power of nature. Taking a stroll amongst the fresh flora is not only good for the body, it’s good for the mind, too! It’s an organic stress reliever that shouldn’t be forgotten, in the New Year! 

  1. Cutting out Social Media

Ok, we don’t mean cutting it out altogether – because that’s a little too ambitious. But, as they say, ‘everything in moderation’. Perhaps delete the apps from your phone if you’re serious about not being obsessive about the latest Facebook and Instagram posts. By doing this, you’ll have to take the long route – only accessing through the web. 

  1. Learning Something New

There’s always something new to learn – especially in a world as fast-moving as this! Take up a class in an interesting subject, learn yoga, read an informative book, study something new… there are plenty of ways to expand your mind! 

  1. Getting Rid of Things You Don’t Need

It’s all about the minimalistic lifestyle – decluttering your home, your life and your mind. Whichever way you want to spring clean, do so in a way that will benefit you. The new year is the perfect time to start with a clean new slate. 

  1. Making New Friends

Say yes to meeting new people and making new friends! The more friends, the better – they add value to one’s life and bring plenty of fun! 

  1. Travelling to a Destination off the Beaten Track

Of course, you should say yes to more travelling! But, why not say yes to travelling somewhere different from the main touristy destinations? Go on a Safari in Africa, visit the Amazon Jungle or the glaciers in Patagonia. Be different! 

  1. Buying Yourself Flowers

Who said you have to wait for prince charming to shower you with flowers? There’s nothing wrong with buying flowers for yourself – and it doesn’t have to be a special occasion, either! 

  1. Dabbling in A New Hobby

Change it up in the new year and say yes to dabbling in some new hobbies! Don’t give up on your old hobbies, but there’s no harm in exposing yourself to some new ones, too! 

  1. Owning Your Flaws

Say yes to accepting your flaws, and owning them! Every person has their flaws, and there shouldn’t be any reason to feel bad about them! Wear them proudly!

  1. Being the Change

As the saying goes: Be the change you wish to see in the world. Be part of the do-ers, the ones that take action and truly want to make a positive impact. 2018 is the year of change and the year of positivity! 

  1. Wearing Whatever Makes You Feel Good

Wear what you want, when you want! Don’t be stressed about whether or not you’re following the latest trends. Wear what makes you feel good – even if it’s something you hauled out of the back of your closet. 

  1. Counting Your Blessings

Say yes to counting your blessings this year! It’s always a good time to reflect and be grateful for who you are, how far you’ve come, what you have and who you have in your life. Perhaps keep a journal of your blessings, to remind you of them when times get tough.

    15. Telling People How Much They Mean to You

Tell those you love, that you love them. We don’t say this enough, but in 2018, make a concerted effort to tell people what they mean to you, and thank your nearest and dearest for the impact they’ve had on your life. 

  1. Putting Yourself First

We don’t mean you should be selfish and self-absorbed, what we mean is that you should recognise that you’re valuable, too. Indulge in ‘me time’ and stand strong in your decisions and choices. 

  1. Being Healthy

Who cares about working harder for your dream body – we’ve heard that one every year! It’s more important to be healthy than it is to have a bangin’ bod. Cut out the bad and fill your body with more of the good! You’ll probably achieve your dream body in the process.

  1. Saying No, Without Feeling Bad

There’s plenty to say yes to in 2018, but don’t forget to say no, too! Say no to bad energy, bad food, bad decisions and anything that doesn’t make you feel good!

Just a gentle reminder: you never have to wait for the New Year, to make changes and say YES to new, positive ways of living! Today is the perfect day to start!
