For as long as I can remember I have wanted to take our children on a cruise. When Stuart and I were first “dating” we went on a cruise around the Mediterranean for our very first holiday. It was so much fun, I loved waking up each day somewhere new, and of course being in the Europe there is so much variety in what each country has to offer. The scenery was different every day, the language, the excursions, it was all so diverse. We absolutely loved it and ever since we have had children, we’ve wanted to take them away on a cruise too.
I thought I would share my reasons for why I think a cruise could be the perfect holiday for you and your family, and a few things that we loved while we were on our cruise holiday, for anyone looking into booking a cruise for their next holiday.
Choosing A Cruise For Your Next Family Holiday
Exploring Local Treasures.
Tours and excursions are easy to organise with your cruise operator and they come with English speaking guides if needed. You can pick and choose which ones you do depending on where you want to explore. We love doing these to discover the local areas with highly knowledgeable guides sharing the insider tips for the best places to visit on each stop. They’re an excellent way of learning local history and culture, and of course you get to try the local cuisine too while you’re there!
All You Can Eat Delicious Food & Drink.
One clear memory I have of our cruise was the continual supply of delicious food available throughout the day. I love how all the food is inspired by the places we visited, and there were different styles of meals and dining that you could try, according to what you fancied that evening. Often unlimited alcohol deals are on offer too, as well as on-board credits, so definitely shop around for these.
Diverse range of cruise types.
Whether you want to embark on a voyage of discovery in the Norwegian Fjords, rich in history and stunning beauty with incredible views of the Northern Lights, delight in the frenetic, fast-paced modern cities of Asia and the far east, or even enjoy an Emerald river cruise and be enchanted by the islands of Dalmatia, a cruise really does allow everything the world has to offer. We took in 6 countries during our Mediterranean cruise which was a brilliant way to see a lot of different cultures in one week, but I would love to taste a bit of paradise visiting the endless beautiful islands that the Indian Ocean boasts.
A great benefit of a cruise for someone who doesn’t wish to fly, or perhaps just wants to take the hassle out of travelling, is that you can board your cruise in one of the many UK ports and set sail from there to a far flung destination, cancelling out any of the stress or anxiety that flying may cause. There are often no baggage allowance restrictions on no-fly options too, so you can pack as much as you like and not have to worry about airport limitations.
Family Friendly Entertainment
A cruise ship holds an unbelievable amount of entertainment options guaranteed to keep you busy, but especially little ones. Don’t be surprised to find cinemas, bowling alleys, zip links, ice rinks, water parks and even indoor sky diving on board a cruise ship. The list is endless, and they can also offer kid’s clubs and evening entertainment which enables you to have a relaxing cruise holiday as well as enjoying fun family time too.
The list of reasons to choose a cruise really could go on and on, but hopefully this gives you some ideas as to what could be awaiting you for your next holiday.
