While I was pregnant I spent hours lusting after beautiful prams and travel systems. They are one of the major purchases when planning for a new arrival that you can’t help but get so excited about. But as our babies have grown up and changed, as have our needs for what we use when we are out and about with them. Especially so when we travel anywhere for our adventures. As much as I have loved our travel systems for both Henry & George, I have often struggled with their storage and the space they take up; especially in the car boot when we are traveling anywhere with luggage – we definitely don’t travel light now that there is 4 of us!! I am so pleased we’ve been able to review the Baby Jogger City Tour because it is just perfect for when we are using public transport or just nipping out with one of the boys.
We have had a couple of great pushchairs over time, but one thing we’ve sometimes struggled with is the size of them when folded. Which is especially apparent when we are out on our adventures somewhere; hopping on a bus or jumping on a train can prove to be a stressful experience but I’ve been really impressed with how small and convenient the Baby Jogger City Tour has been when folded, without compromising any comfort or safety. At just 14lb I’m pretty sure my handbag probably weighs about the same amount sometimes so it’s really easy to lift it up into storage or walk along with it folded when you need. There’s no need to detach the seat from the base when putting it down either which is really a deal breaker for me – this is definitely something I would advise people about when choosing the right pram for their needs.
We love to explore and visit new places by car too, but packing for a road trip down to somewhere like Cornwall with two 4 and under means you need pretty much everything but the kitchen sink, and when the pram takes up half the boot it becomes a problem. I have loved using the Baby Jogger City Tour over the past couple of months because it has made transporting it anywhere so easy. (I should have probably vacuumed the boot for these photos, but just look how little space it takes up, it’s incredible!!)
This is not to say that Baby Jogger have compromised on the City Tour’s features. In fact the Baby Jogger City Tour boasts many key attributes including extendable sun hood with UV50+ protection, ample basket underneath (essential for my shopping needs!) comfortable reclining seat with 5 point harness (we often just use the waist strap as George is 2 now and likes to have his arms free) locking swivel wheels which make for easy maneuvering, and it even comes with a handy travel bag free of charge which is perfect for taking it on flights – did I mention it goes easily in the overhead storage on a plane?!
I love that the handle bar is low enough for Henry to “help” because he is at an age where he really wants to push the stroller everywhere, however I should mention it’s not adjustable which might cause a problem if you were over 6ft. Putting it down is childsplay and after a little practice can even be done one handed. Simply fold over the handle bar by pressing in the button, then push the red button underneath and pull up the handle in the seat, it’s really easy. Personally I would prefer a softer handle bar, but I think this one will be really hard wearing.
I hope this has been useful to anyone looking for a lightweight stroller review. The City Tour comes in 3 colours – Juniper like we have, violet or black. I love pushchairs with a bit of character so it was great to choose a bright colour like this. It retails for £249 and you can find stockists here.
