How To Create A Stress-Free Morning Routine With Kids

Before I had kids, back in my 20-something-year-old care free days, I used to watch Mum’s from afar and wonder how on earth they did it – racing around dropping everyone at school before heading in to start a day of work in the office. It looked to me like they had done a day’s work before they had even got started! My routine back then consisted of rolling out of bed and straight into the shower, stuffing shreddies into my mouth whilst spending a good hour doing my hair and make up before driving into work, usually arriving a couple of minutes late.

My routine back then consisted of rolling out of bed and straight into the shower, stuffing shreddies into my mouth whilst spending a good hour doing my hair and make up before driving into work, usually arriving a couple of minutes late. Fast forward to a few years and two children later and I am now that Mum racing to get the children to school on time. They need me to get them there on time each day and it feels like it’s my duty to ensure they have a stress-free morning before they start their day of learning. Therefore everything I can do to make sure it’s relatively calm is important. There are several things that can go wrong each day, and often they do! There’s just something about school mornings and kids that creates chaos, no matter what time you get up. However, because I have identified the main delay causing speed bumps in our morning routine I feel like I have all my bases covered when something goes awry. With 2 sons aged 3 and 5 the biggest issues occur when they have jobs to do themselves, getting shoes on, getting dressed, brushing teeth. Thankfully the former usually gets turned into a game of who can do it the quickest, however when it comes to brushing teeth that’s not something that can be rushed. Brushing teeth has always been the toughest task for the boys, simply because they have no interest in doing it and it’s nothing more than a bore for them. Thankfully I have found a solution that not only means the boys actually enjoy brushing their teeth, but they can do it themselves affectively and correctly with minimal assistance (leaving me an extra 3 minutes to put a load of washing on/stack the dishwasher/chuck on some lippy.) Winning. Playbrush is a cool device whereby a smart attachment is added to the bottom to your child’s toothbrush which connects via Bluetooth to your smartphone or tablet. Once you download the app you’ll find lots of games and fun activities for your child to do whilst brushing their teeth. Each movement is tracked and correlates with each game, ensuring each tooth and area of the mouth is brushed efficiently within the given time. Progress can be checked and personalised to challenge them each day to keep their teeth nice and clean. Since Henry has been using the Playbrush my toughest part of getting them up and out the door has become SO much easier and no longer a source of frustration or stress!
